The urban getaway...St Pete

We decided that we needed a quick weekend away before our Europe vacation. We wanted to stay over is St Pete so that we could go some of the restaurants there and we had done the St Anthony Triathlon the weekend or two before that and picked out a mooring spot in the Vinoy Basin. We left early on Friday morning and arrived an hour or so later. It was our first time catching a ball, but we got it first shot. Note to self…wear gloves. The barnacles on the rope did cut my fingers but all in all, it went perfectly. If you are wanting more of an urban feel getaway then this is the place for you. It was vibe and busy with people on bikes or running and walking the harbor all the time. We had lunch on board - or course an easy and light salad with avocado and Rose wine. It was already hot by now in Florida so these lunches are a favorite for us. We took the dingy to shore and walked to a nearby Publix to get some supplies. After a sundowner on board, we took the dingy to a lovely restaurant, Bella Brava on the waterfront. On Saturday, we built and took our fold-up bikes to shore and cycle all along the waterside to the Dali Museum and the small airport then back along the bay past the Vinoy and around the beach park. We had a light lunch again and spoke to great friends of ours in South Africa who are making their over to live in the BVI. (They were part of our inspiration to live onboard as we do today!) The girls and boys came over to visit us for a couple of hours. We walked to the church down the street that had a huge claimable tree to the side of it. We climbed it with the boys and took some wonderful pics with them. We walked on to have an ice cream with them and then said goodbye to them before heading back on board. That evening we had dinner at Tryst - and my word was it worth it. Live music on the sidewalk with THE most divine food and cocktails. It was truly a surprise for us - we will go back there for sure! On Sunday we took the dingy around to a little beach and anchored it for it few hours. We headed back to the boat at lunch time and left for home. It was a great little getaway and so easy to do from our Westshore home. Happy wife! :o)
